Restoration
Golf GTI Mk2 (1990)
Full restoration · Historic Vehicle
The GTI Mk2 was the car of my youth and the restoration I still had pending. When a 1990 unit turned up at a good price, I turned it into a project with scope, deadline and budget: six months of work to bring back a finish true to the original.
The goal
Recover the car, not dress it up: a thorough engine overhaul, interior and exterior restored, and the full paperwork through to registering it as a Historic Vehicle.
The process
I stripped the interior completely to prepare, clean and repair every part. The mechanics I learned on the car itself: a full engine overhaul and replacing components with parts that are ever harder to find. Every decision, with the original as the reference.
The result
The engine runs and the car drives. Registered as a Historic Vehicle and shown at classic-car meets. The same method as in my other projects —defined scope, contained budget, goal met—, in a new domain.
